My iTouch, my BFF
So I promised Marge I’d blog about what happened to my iTouch breakdown. So a couple of weeks ago when I plugged my iTouch on to my laptop, I got an error message saying that iTunes couldn’t recognize my iTouch. So I looked it up online and I found discussion forms advising people to restore the iTouch by pressing the sleep/wake and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds while plugged to the computer. iTunes would then figure out that the user is trying to restore the iTouch and would have that restore feature available. However, the first time I tried restoring, it got stuck in one of the steps of the restore process. So I unplugged my iTouch prematurealy and since then, I couldn’t use my iTouch at all. The image that instructs to plug the iTouch to iTunes was stuck on my screen when I turn it on and I couldn’t bypass it. I tried restoring a few times. Same thing. Tried rebooting my laptop. Fail. Tried restoring on a different day. Nothing. Apparently, the advice from the discussion boards was that if you can’t get it right the first time, keep trying until it works and that timing is key. Still to no avail. I decided to look it up further and across this. And it’s the only thing that worked for me. It suggests installing Hotspot Shield that lets me connect to a different ISP. Apparently, the ISP I was using is incompatible with Apple’s servers. But the thing is I was able to connect my iTouch to my iTunes in the past using the same ISP. The only thing that’s changed recently prior to my iTouch breakdown is that my anti-virus expired. And I think it affected my networking and consequently my access to the Internet. Same thing happened to my sister. Her anti-virus expired and she lost the ability to connect to the Internet. Of course she didn’t realize at first that this was due to the ant-virus being expired. But when she took it to get it fixed, she was told that she needed an anti-virus. (Tip: If you can’t get an anti-virus immediately but you wanna go online, try uninstalling the expired anti-virus. Apparently, the anti-virus is stopping your computer to go online to protect it from potentially getting viruses. Please note that this is just a tip and not a recommendation.) Anyways, once I successfully restored my iTouch, I uninstalled the Hotspot Shield. I would keep using it if it doesn’t have pop-ups showing up every 5 minutes.
